Governor Bill Haslam not invited to address the National Rifle Association meeting set to open this Friday in Nashville. NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker says the group was unable to accommodate a role for Haslam, although several potential Republican Presidential hopefuls are scheduled to appear. Baker says Haslam’s office was helpful in setting up the Nashville convention. At least seven possible GOP Presidential candidates will attend the NRA meeting. Haslam not a favorite of gun advocacy groups, including the NRA he has been criticized for approving a ban on guns in city parks while he was Mayor of Knoxville. Haslam has also expressed reservations over legislation working its way through the General Assembly that would strip away the right of City Governments to ban guns in municipal parks.
