State Shorts Coffee County Education Funds

Tennessee is shorting Coffee County by some $10,000 per teacher each year in salary costs and is paying for only 10 months worth of health insurance annually. This according to legal documents filed by an attorney representing the Coffee County system and six other districts across the state which claim the state’s basic education program systematically under-funds public education by some $600 million each year. The systems 1st sought more funding in a lawsuit filed in March. The state has asked a judge to dismiss the action.
