The unemployment rate ticked up in Southern Middle Tennessee last month as students flooded the labor market and seasonal school related jobs ended. The State Department of Labor and Workforce Development says Coffee County’s jobless rate in June was 6%. That’s up from 5.4% in May. The Franklin County rate increased by 8/10th of a point to 6% in June. Unemployment in Grundy County went up by a full point last month to 8.5%. Steady job growth however has pushed down overall area jobless rates since the great recession of 2008. Unemployment skirted around 10% in many counties 6 years ago.
