A Woman accused of bilking banks and taxpayers out of millions of dollars to support a lavish lifestyle is expected to reach a plea deal as early as next week. Wendy Askins was director of the Cookeville based Upper Cumberland Development District until a media investigation led to her resignation last year. WTVF-TV reports Askins allegedly secured loans and public money for the Development District, but diverted the funds towards a mansion style personal home, clothing and travel. The woman has already pleaded guilty on state fraud charges. Federal Indictments against the woman, if she is found guilty, could result in a 225 year jail term and fines of some $6.7 million.
