Carmakers in Chattanooga and Smyrna set to benefit from a state infrastructure grant totaling more than $200 million. The Building Commission voted yesterday to award some $169 million to German Automaker Volkswagen for expansion of it’s Chattanooga plant. Another $35 Million will help with development and upgrades to the Nissan supplier park in Smyrna. Tennessee offered incentives to Volkswagen in order to lure the manufacturer to establish a new assembly line making a sport utility model. Volkswagen picked Tennessee over a Mexican plant.
