Statistics show the number of people in Tennessee with gun carry permits has increased at a much quicker pace than last year.
WATE-TV began looking at the numbers after hearing they increased in the wake of the deadly attacks on two U.S. military facilities in Chattanooga.
Mel and Peggy Beal, a couple married for 46 years, say they just want to feel safe. They were buying ammunition from Bud’s Gun Shop in Sevierville and say they’re new to guns. Mel Beal just got his carry permit in August and Peggy Beal is currently in the process of getting hers.
“Well I think people really have to take care of their own safety. As an older couple, we have to take care of it ourselves because the police and sheriff’s department always won’t be around,” said Mel Beal.
