MTSU Seeks More Out of State Freshmen with New Program

Middle Tennessee State University has unveiled a program that school officials say will provide incentives for select out-of-state freshmen who live within 250 miles of its Murfreesboro, Tennessee, campus.

President Sidney McPhee announced the Regional Scholars Program this week in Atlanta.

If approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents, the program would be offered starting in fall 2016 to students with an ACT composite of 25 and above. Officials say the program would reduce MTSU’s out-of-state tuition by 48 percent.

McPhee said the program would remove some of the obstacles to strong applicants who live close to the state.

Atlanta was the second stop of the 2015 True Blue Tour, the first of three out-of-state venues for the admissions event.

McPhee and the tour will also travel to Huntsville, Alabama, on Nov. 4 and Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Nov. 11.
