Tennessee House Speaker Beth Hartwell says lawmakers will likely reconsider expanding Tenncare Coverage when the general assembly convenes in January. But the Nashville republican says major concerns over Gov. Bill Haslam’s plan will probably doom the effort. She says members want a cap on added Tenncare enrollment. Harwell says lawmakers are also skeptical of ongoing federal funding for health insurance coverage. Haslam’s “Insure Tennessee” program would use federal Medicaid money to help cover an estimated 280,000 currently uninsured citizens. The program is backed by hospital groups. Earlier this year a senate committee voted to block the plan and conservatives have vowed to defeat the expansion since it’s tied to the federal affordable care act.
