Tennessee Insurance Co-Op going out of Business

A Knoxville—based health insurance cooperative going out of business at the end of the year, leaving about 27,000 Tennesseans with the task of arranging replacement coverage. Community Health Alliance was formed as a low—cost insurance provider under the federal affordable care act.  The Tennessean reports the co-op enrolled far more members than expected. Leading to questions about its financial condition.  The state department of insurance says the co-op will continue paying claims. Community health stopped taking on new customers in January. Current policyholders must arrange replacement coverage during the open enrollment period starting November 1st.
