Monteagle Police Seeking Truck & Tractor Thieves

Authorities looking for 2 men who led Grundy County police on a truck chase mid-week. Monteagle police were alerted about a truck stolen in nearby Sewanee Wednesday morning. Monteagle Police Chief Virgil McNeese spotted the stolen vehicle, pulling a trailer loaded with a tractor reported stolen in Pelham. The truck – trailer combination was followed by another pickup truck with no license plate. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports the truck—trailer driver abandoned the vehicle as it neared a dead—end road and jumped into the bed of the unlicensed truck. As McNeese continued the pursuit, the suspect in the truck bed jumped out and ran. The driver of the 2nd truck drove into a wooded area and also fled on foot. The pair were tracked by bloodhounds to near interstate 24 where the trail was lost. McNeese says both suspects have been identified. Though the two men remain at-large, they have been identified and the stolen property has all been recovered, McNeese said. The chief now is seeking warrants for the two men. He didn’t disclose their names but that information might be released later, he said.

Anyone with any information about the case should contact the Monteagle Police Department at 931-924-2077.
