Great Smoky Mountains to Set Tourism Records

Officials say the Great Smoky Mountains National Park set a visitation record last month. So far this year more 8 million have visited the park that straddles Tennessee and North Carolina. September visitation was up by 5.5 percent. More than 1 million visited the Great Smokies, last month—the highest level since record keeping started in 1979. The national park created in the 1930’s is the most visited in the nation. It averages some 9 million guests each year. Park superintendent Cassius cash says the park continues to be a premier travel destination in the eastern US.
