A pair of republican state lawmakers calling for the dismissal of a University of Tennessee official after a Fox News dust up over on–campus Christmas celebrations. The pair object to a university website posting that encourages UT employees to make sure holiday parties are not “Christmas parties in disguise”. State senator’s Dolores Gresham and Mike Bell yesterday called for the resignation of UT Chancellor Jimmy Cheek. The post from the university’s office of diversity and inclusion gives tips on how to avoid endorsing a specific religion or culture during holiday celebrations. The senators say that stance is offensive to a vast majority of Tennessean’s who support UT with their tax dollars. Cheek says the university is in no way trying to dismiss the Christian holiday, but does promote ways to be inclusive of all religions and cultures. A UT spokeswoman says the university does not monitor or regulate holiday parties on campus.
