Volkswagen’s Passat sedan made in Chattanooga is a top safety pick. The German automaker says the Passat has earned high ratings from the insurance institute for highway safety. The company says cars equipped with the optional forward collision warning and automatic braking feature were recognized by the rating agency. The Passat also earned a good rating as a result of the institute’s small overlap front crash test. 3 other Volkswagen models also achieved top safety ratings. Japanese brands won most of the institute’s best ratings for 2016 models. Manchester’s M-Tek plant makes interior trim for the Passat.
