A former Mississippi Mayor starting his second term on the board of directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Richard Howorth was sworn into office this week by his brother, a Federal District Judge in the state. Howorth lives in Oxford, where he served 2 terms as mayor from 2001—2009. He owns an independent book store in the town. Howorth’s nomination by President Barak Obama for a 2nd term was unanimously confirmed by the Senate. He will serve on the TVA board through May, 2020. TVA is the nation’s largest federal utility and supplies power to 9 million customers in 7 southern states.
