Tennessee County Continues to Fight “Gay Marriage” Ruling

Union County Commissioners have voted to review proposed resolutions that would ask the General Assembly to ignore this summer’s Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage. The Johnson City press says leaders have directed the County Attorney to look at two resolutions, both calling for the State to ignore the high court ruling and continue to enforce Tennessee’s Constitutional Ban of same-sex unions. A Rutherford County Republican State Rep says Tennessee should stop issuing all marriage licenses and resort to common law unions in order to thwart the Supreme Court decision. Republican Go. Bill Haslam says the state has no choice but to issue same-sex marriage licenses.
