Distracted Driver Penalties Could Stiffen

Tennessee Lawmakers considering added penalties for school buss drivers distracted by cell phones and other electronic devices. This after a December, 2014 fatal school buss crash in Knoxville caused by the driver texting while on the job. The house transportation committee has approved a bill imposing a minimum $1,000 fine and a 30day jail term for a bus driver using a personal device while transporting students. Knoxville Republican Rep. Eddie Smith says his bill is a needed student safety measure.
