Grand jury charges 2 men in boy’s firework death

Two Nashville men have been charged in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy who was killed last June in accident involving fireworks.

Nashville police say a Davidson County grand jury has charged 25-year-old Joshua A. Woods and 28-year-old Kenneth Starks with reckless homicide and reckless endangerment. The two are accused of killing Antonio Braden by being reckless and irresponsible.

Authorities say the boy and his friends were setting off bottle rockets and roman candles when Woods and Starks began shooting artillery firework shells off a street outside a Nashville public housing development. The juveniles went over to watch, and some began handling unexploded shells. Police believe a damaged shell exploded, fatally injuring Antonio.
