(Nashville Scene) Early voting for Tennessee’s March 1 presidential primary starts today and the polls are open now. Tennesseans vote along with voters in 14 other states on March 1, hence the name Super Tuesday. Six of those states are in the southeast, hence the name “the SEC Primary” taken from a more important contest — college football. And with chaos reigning in the primaries so far, the March 1 results look to be significant.
The March 1 ballot will include presidential candidates, Assessor of Property candidates and Democratic Executive Committee candidates.
A little bit of recent history: Rick Santorum won Tennessee’s 2012 presidential primary, he did not go on to win the nomination. Similarly in 2008, Republican primary voters gave Mike Huckabee the nod — not nominated— while Democratic primary voters chose Hillary Clinton — not nominated.
