State Auditors Set Fraud Probe

Auditors with the State Comptroller will review financial records for the Manchester Coffee County Conference Center following it’s largest operating loss ever and the December resignation of General Manager. A private accountant who recently looked at the Center’s books says there were “alarming gaps” in bank statement information provided by then Manager Alyce Heifner. All bank information concerning debit cards was missing. New unlisted credit card accounts were also found. The Sunday News reports other even number money withdrawals also raised questions. Last year the Conference Center lost $300,000 which will be picked up by taxpayers. The Public Building Authority, which oversees the Manchester facility, has established an audit and finance committee to closely monitor the Center’s operation.
