School Funding Lawsuit back in Court Today

A Davidson County Chancellor is expected to decide the fate of a public education funding lawsuit today. The Coffee County School System and 6 other districts, including Hamilton County, claim the State’s basic education funding formula doesn’t account for many education expenses, including the cost of teacher benefits. The systems claim they are being cheated out of millions of dollars in state aid as a result. The systems have asked for class-action status for the legal challenge, which if granted, would cover all 141 public school districts in Tennessee. The State Attorney General is asking Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman to dismiss the lawsuit.
