Helmet bill stalls

Legislation allowing adult motorcycle drivers to operate without a safety helmet is dead for this session of the general assembly. House republican sponsor jay reedy pulled the bill Wednesday, saying many lawmakers questioned elements of the proposed law. The bill would allow riders over age 21 to opt out of helmet use, but would require them to carry health insurance. The Tennessee highway patrol strongly opposed the bill. A T-H-P spokesman says the measure would certainly increase traffic deaths in the volunteer state.
