Layne Parkway Re-opens

A busy downtown Shelbyville Street now open again for travel after months of detour. Parts of Layne Parkway Collapsed last year after heavy rains destroyed an underground flume system designed to handle storm run-off. The collapsed threatened the city’s fire and police department complex. Engineers say misdirected water eroded the flumes foundation, causing it to fail. Parts of the flume system also collapsed in 2014. The system was installed in the early 1960’s. Officials say they hope the latest work will avoid future problems.
