3 republican presidential primary campaigns have spent nearly $1.5 million on television advertising in Tennessee running up to today’s election. The biggest spender is Texas senator Ted Cruz. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Cruz and political action committees backing his bid spent nearly $1.03 million on advertising, mostly in the Nashville and Memphis markets. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has spent about $390,000 on ad buys. New York businessman Donald Trump, who is leading in the latest tennessee poll, spent only $200,000. Democrat Hillary Clinton dropped about $380,000 on ad buys. Opponent Vermont senator Bernie Sanders bought nothing.
Trump is forecast to maintain his string of primary wins by carrying at least Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia today.
