Shooting threat empties east state school

70 percent of students assigned to Hamilton County’s Ooltewah High School skipped classroom duty Tuesday in response to 3 shooting threats found scrawled on restroom walls earlier. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports more than 1,000 students were absent. Parents say they kept children home out of fear and frustration over the way school officials handled the threats. The sheriff’s department says the shooting threats were not credible, but assigned extra deputies for duty at the school. Parents say school administrators and police bungled information about the threats, causing them to take students from classes.
