Tennessee republican senator Lamar Alexander has been named council alumnus of the year by boy scouts of America. The organization says Alexanders political and business career has been guided by skills and values learned as a boy scout. The former governor and university of Tennessee president was nominated by the Great Smoky Mountains Boy Scout council. Alexander earned his Eagle Scout designation in 1954. He was given the national distinguished Eagle Scout award in 1983.
