HASLAM FLIPS ON GAS TAX

Republican Gov. Bill Haslam has flipped his stance on a possible gas tax hike, telling reporters he will gauge interest among lawmakers before deciding whether to push for added revenue. Earlier Haslam had declared he wouldn’t seek a fuel tax hike during this session of the General Assembly—after many Republican Lawmakers nixed the idea. Now Haslam says he might put a tax hike back on the table. The 21.4 cent per gallon tax hasn’t been adjusted since the 1980’s.
