A federal appeals court will decide the fate of Tennessee law that now bars cities like Tullahoma from extending taxpayer owned, internet broadband service to rural areas outside their municipal limits. The federal communications commission voted narrowly last year to override the Tennessee prohibition. Lawyers for Tennessee say the f-c-c ruling is a federal over-reach of authority. A bill sponsored by Tullahoma republican state senator Janice Bowling would have allowed internet expansion. It was batted down in the general assembly this month at the insistence of AT&T which claimed it would put the company at a competitive disadvantage with taxpayer subsidized service.
