VOLKSWAGEN CONSIDERS ELECTRIC CAR FOR CHATTANOOGA

German automaker Volkswagen says it’s considering building an electric car plant in the U.S. in an effort to offset global woes caused by its diesel emissions scandal. Chattanooga would be the obvious choice for expanded production. The company tells regulators a new electric car could be offered to replace existing diesel models that belch unlawful exhaust emissions. Volkswagen is spending $900 million to expand its Chattanooga plant for production of a new sport utility model that’s expected to debut next year.
