Harwell Nixes Insure Tennessee Vote

Republican House Speaker Beth Harwell says she wont seek a vote on Gov. Bill Haslam’s plan to expand Tenncare Coverage to include some 230,000 uninsured citizens. Harwell responding to a series of privately funded billboards across the state urging folks to call her and demand a vote. Some 20 billboards have been put up across the state, including a Tullahoma location. Tullahoma Republican State Senator Janice Bowling voted to kill Haslam’s Tenncare Expansion plan in a Senate Committee last year and has rebuffed any effort to revive the idea. Harwell says Haslam has dropped Insure TN for now and she wont introduce it in the house. Insure TN would offer coverage with mostly federal money from the Affordable Care Act. Tennessee Hospitals have pledged to pick up any uncovered costs. Republicans oppose it since it’s tied to the hated “Obamacare” plan.
