Bible-Thumping State Senators have advanced a measure that would name the Christian text Tennessee’s official book. The Judiciary Committee voted 7-1 Tuesday to adopt the Bible. The house passed similar legislation last year. Proponents say they believe naming the Bible as Tennessee’s official book would pass a court challenge. Gov. Bill Haslam and Attorney General Herb Slatery oppose the efforts. Slatery says recognized the Bible as a Government-Sponsored book violates both the U.S, and State Constitution.
