A Tullahoma Attorney says he will challenge 47th District State Rep, Judd Matheny in the August Republican Primary. William Lockhard says he will focus his efforts on issues ranging from education and job creation to criminal justice reform. Lockhard says he is a strong conservative who can well represent the district in Nashville. Matheny was first elected to the House in 2002 and has survived several re-election challenges by Democrats. Lockhart’s bid is the first primary challenge for Matheny. Matheny fell from favor of House Republican Leadership after he considered challenging Speaker Beth Harwell in 2012. He lost his Speaker Pro-Tem post that year to Rep. Curtis Johnson. The district includes Coffee County and part of Warren County.
