Despite wide opposition, State Senators are expected to name the Bible as Tennessee’s official book during a floor vote set for this afternoon. The House passed a similar measure last year. Republican Gov. Bill Haslam, Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey and Majority Leader Mark Norris all oppose the bill. Ramsey calls the move sacrilegious. Attorney General Herb Slatery says giving government favor to the Christian text violates both the U.S. and Tennessee Constitutions, and couldn’t pass a court test.
