Dog Abuse Results in Coffee Co. Murder

Investigators say bad blood over alleged dog abuse has resulted in the murder of a Coffee County man. Vincent Elliot, age 48, has been charged with 1st degree murder in connection with the beating and shooting death of David Brooks, age 50. Sheriff Steve Graves says investigators acting on a tip discovered Brooks had abused his dog over the weekend. Graves says Brooks had been beaten with a tire iron and was shot 6 to 12 times with a .22 caliber rifle. Graves believes the victim had been dead for about a day before the body was discovered Wednesday afternoon. Elliot apparently attacked Brooks as the victim rode by his home on a bicycle. The men were neighbors. Elliot is being held in the Coffee County Jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is set for next week.
