Man Leads Police Chase with Manchester Police Car

A 34-year-old man faces a slew of charges after he allegedly fled police, escaped a patrol car and led officers on a second chase in Manchester.

According to authorities, Manchester police and Coffee County deputies responded to a call about a possible impaired driver passed out inside his vehicle at a Sonic.

As the officers were on their way, Alford Lazo Jr. left the area and allegedly drove to Old Bushy Branch Road as the officers followed.

Officers eventually stopped Lazo and obtained his identification. During that time, he allegedly drove off and led officers on a pursuit until he crashed.

Lazo was taken into police custody and placed in the back of a Manchester patrol car before he escaped.

Police said he got out from the rear of the patrol car before getting back inside the front of the vehicle, leading police on a second pursuit.

Authorities report that he attempted to strike several officers with the vehicle, before eventually crashing into them.

Three county vehicles were damaged and the Manchester police car Lazo attempted to flee in was heavily damaged, along with another vehicle receiving damage in the second pursuit.

A Coffee County investigator sustained injuries in the incident. He has since been treated and released.

Alford Lazo, Jr. is charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license (third offense), escape, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, theft of property, vandalism, violation of the implied consent law, violation of probation.

He is also faces a parole violation and additional charges are pending.

Lazo is being held on a bond of $177,100 and is set to be in court on April 28, 2016.
