Grundy Jail Sets Summer Opening


Officials say Grundy County’s new $6.6 million jail should be ready for inmates as early as July. Work to complete the 98-bed facility has been slowed by recent wet weather. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Grundy County’s current lock-up is 1 of the oldest in the southeast Tennessee and hasn’t been state certified since 1994. The oldest jail is designs for 32 prisoners but the daily inmate count averages 68.sherrif Clint Schrum says some 26 newly hired jailers will start training at the new jail in June.
