Desjarlais Claims Big Lead Over Foe

4th District Congressman Scott Desjarlais says a poll conducted for his re-election campaign reveals he has a huge lead over his Republican primary opponent. The South Pittsburg Physician’s bid for a 4th term in Washington is being challenged by Murfreesboro Lawyer Grant Starrett. The Tea Party favorite claims he leads Starrett by a margin of 61% to 8% going into the August primary. 27% of the 400 poll respondents were undecided. Desjarlais barley survived a primary challenge by Shelbyville’s Jim Tracy in 2014, winning by 38 votes. Starrett, a California native, claimed some $900,000 in his campaign warchest at the end of March compared to $346,000 reported by the incumbent. The 4th district includes Franklin, Grundy, Warren, Bedford, Moore and Rutherford Counties.
