Insurers Stick With ACA


3 insurance companies providing the bulk of health exchange coverage in TN say they will continue to offer policies for 2017. Blue Cross – Blue Shield of TN, Humana & Cigna say they will renew coverage and accept new applications for the next year despite mounting losses. Some 270,000 Tennesseans are enrolled through the exchange this year, up by 35,000 over 2015. Chattanooga based Blue Cross has the Lion’s share exchange coverage. United Healthcare says it will drop the exchange due to losses. The company had only a small fraction of business in the state. Blue Cross vice president Roy Vaughn says the company remains committed to the exchange system. Studies show federal subsidies for premiums keep the average out-of-pocket cost at around $104 a month
