Tick Season Is Here


State Health Officials warn the tick season has arrived in TN. Expert say Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is the most preventable tick borne disease in TN. Their were 603 reported cases of the disease in the state last year. The disease produces a pink spotted rash, that appears on the wrist, forearms & ankles between day 2 and day 5 of infection. Officials warn treatment is important to avoid complications that could be fatal. Lyme disease spread by deer ticks is rare in TN. Avoid tick bites by staying away from high grass, brush & wooded area. Wear light colored long pants and shirts to keep ticks off and make them easier to find.
