More Now with Health Insurance

More Tennesseans now have health insurance coverage than ever. The Department of Health and Human Services says the number of adult Tennesseans without coverage has dropped by 2.5% in the last 3 years as provisions of the Affordable Care Act kicked in. 16.2% had no coverage at all in 2013. That dropped to 13.7% of adults last year. The uninsured rate in Tennessee is above the national average, mainly because Republican Lawmakers refused to implement Gov. Bill Haslam’s plan to extend Medicaid benefits to an estimated 280,000 working poor. National fewer than 10% are now uninsured, the lowest rate in history.
