A court-ordered break out of a 2004 abortion ballot measure it could cost taxpayers as much is 1 million. Voters narrowly approved a States Constitution Amendment severely limiting abortion as part of the November general election ballot. A federal district judge ordered a recount of the initiative last month, saying the method used to count referendum votes was “fundamentally unfair” to voters oppose to the Amendment. State lawmakers passed a slew of abortion limiting laws last year. Election officials are asked to delay a recount as they appeal Judge Kevin Sharp’s decision.
