A Coffee County man accused of setting a 20-year-old woman on fire was found dead in his jail cell on Thursday.
Chief Deputy Frank Watkins confirmed to News 2 the death of David Bass is being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
There are no further details at this time.
The 55-year-old man was in jail on charges of aggravated assault and setting fire to personal property after his arrest Sunday evening.
According to authorities, officers were called to his Tullahoma home where they met a woman with severe burns on her legs.
She allegedly told EMS personnel that she and Bass had gotten into an argument when Bass was about to burn all her clothes before she jumped in to get them. He is accused of pouring accelerant on her and the clothes before setting them on fire.
Tullahoma police said they found a fire pit in the back yard with clothing inside that had been burned.
Bass was in the Coffee County jail on $105,000 bond at the time of his death.
