Sheriff Faces Ouster Push

During the June 6, 2016 Steering, Legislative & Governmental Committee meeting in the Rutherford County Courthouse, the topic of discussion that took up most of the agenda dealt with Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.

By the close of the meeting, a resolution was proposed to ask Sheriff Arnold and Chief Deputy Joe Russell to resign. However, the motion was amended by Commissioner Brad Turner to only include Sheriff Arnold in the request of the resignation. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Stevens to only include Sheriff Arnold in a request for resignation.

The motion passed the committee by a 5 to 2 vote. The two who did not approve of the motion were Commissioners Allen McAdoo and Robert Peay, Jr.

The proposal to ask Sheriff Arnold to resign will now go to the full Rutherford County Commission on June 16, 2016 at 6PM.

At this point, an ouster lawsuit will not be filed. Only a request of resignation which Arnold does not have to legally follow.

The idea of an ouster suit may be further discussed at the upcoming full commission meeting.
