The Tennessee Military Department is conducting one of the biggest disaster preparedness exercises in its history.
According to a news release, the exercise this week involves more than 50 Army and Air National Guard units training alongside local fire departments, paramedics, law enforcement agencies and other emergency organizations.
In Memphis, those units will practice their responses in case of an earthquake disaster along the New Madrid fault. One of the disaster drills is open to public viewing. It will take place on Wednesday outside the Shelby County Office of Preparedness Emergency Operations Center from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The units will simulate how food and water would be distributed in case of a catastrophic seismic event.
